Since Todd has announced his retirement effective at the end of the year the names for the new head coach are piling up fast. I know Scott Stricklen from Kent State is in the picture along with some other big names. The kid I'd like to see get a shot is Jeff Waggoner from Marshall. This is a guy who had his team one game away from qualifying from the NCAA tourney two years ago and is second place in Conference USA (one of the top 3 or 4conferences in the country)this year. I'd really like to see someone with his ability to recruit come to OSU and put us on the map nationally.

It would be hard not to give it to Strickland. IMO he's consistently run the best program in the state with probably half the resources of OSU. I think they'd be crazy not to hire him.

I wouldn't say they would be crazy to not go after Stricklin. I have a feeling some people might not be aware of some of the candidates who are interested in such a job.
The list doesn't start or end with Stricklin, I'll tell you that.
Waggoner is a long shot in my opinion. I'm sure he's a good guy and deserves better than Marshall, but there's coaches with national championship experience that will be in the mix.

From the Dispatch:
Former Tennessee baseball coach Rodney Delmonico has applied for the Ohio State job and spoke briefly with athletic director Gene Smith about it, his agent confirmed.
Smith told Delmonico that he hadn't even formed a search committee to replace longtime coach Bob Todd, who announced May 5 that he planned to retire at the end of the season.
Delmonico, 52, served as coach at Tennessee from 1990 to 2007. He led the Volunteers to College World Series appearances in 1995, 2001 and 2005 but was fired after the team failed to make the NCAA Tournament in 2007. He managed the Netherlands national team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

What about Coach Parker's odds at the job?

Slim to none. More likely none.
My short list:
Former Arizona State coach Pat Murphy LSU associate coach David Grewe Louisville assistant Chris Lemonis

Pat Murphy is obviously a big time coach, but is his past going to keep him from getting the job?

Was my thought initially, but I've been told by other coaches (and applying coaches) that within the coaching circle Murphy is target #1.
I'd go with Grewe if I could pick one with Lemonis second. Delmonico does nothing for me.

What's the back story on Murphy? Why was he let go?
Doesn't Smith have Arizona ties? Murphy could be a very real possibility.
I still think Strick has to be a very serious candidate. He's outperformed OSU with half the resources. Plus if you look at his record of getting pitchers to the next level he has to be a very real candidate.

Murphy resigned and the school claims it didn't have anything to do with their investigation but that they just wanted to move in another direction. Here's the quote from ESPN about what they were looking into:
"Arizona State hired a legal firm to investigate allegations made against Murphy, including those of academic fraud, improper recruiting travel, improper use of the nearby Athletes' Performance training facility and violations relating to players working for a non-profit headed by Murphy."
I just think it's fishy that a guy with 600+ wins and 4 CWS appearances isn't the direction ASU wanted to go in.

Why not go after the best baseball coach in Ohio, Matt Palm from Heidelberg ? What he has done with that program is simply, remarkable and impressive. Yea, I know its a DIII program, so what!

I think Palm is fantastic, but I don't know that he would even want that job. He seems to really love the close knit "family" he's developed at the Berg. Plus he's the AD, so while he's not making what Bob Todd made he's doing well for himself (especially in Tiffin vs. Cbus).

There is a lot more to being the baseball coach at Ohio State than baseball. Palm is a great coach, but he would be in a bit over his head running a multi-million dollar program.
Anyhow, a great name and fit that is applying is Kevin McMullan at Virginia.
There's a lot to Murphy that would take me months to write on. .

Bucks should never even consider hiring a coach with a history of great success that was "asked to leave" his prior job, no matter the reason.
We are looking for a coach for the next 20+ years that can continue to lead the program with integrity and build on Coach Todd's success.
We need a top assistant with major program experience like Grewe.
Florida hired Kevin O'Sullivan from Clemson and he has turned the Gators into a better program than Clemson in under 3 years. This is the way to go.

Lots of names circling around to fill the void that Bob Todd will leave. But it seems strange that an obvious match does not seem to have been mentioned yet. Coach John Anderson from the University of Minnesota would be an excellent choice for the Buckeyes. He has been extremely successful coaching northern teams and building exceptional teams with mostly students from his home state. He knows the Big 10 league and is well respected. In addition, he is a player on a national level, as well. Imagine what he could do with the much larger pool of talent that exists in Ohio. With the amount of support that is given from OSU compared to Minnesota's ath. dept for baseball, he seems like an obvious choice.
