So, Now that Fall ball is under way, and some schools have had the opportunity to get ahold of the new BBCOR labeled bats, and are using them in their fall games and practices. If you have been to any of these and watched baseballs being hit with these new bats, what are your thoughts? I was at Wittenberg on 10/3 and watched a DH Witt using exclusively the new DeMarini bat. Got to say, College Baseball is about to change. Thoughts? A few of the players that I talked to about the new bats don"t care for them, and said they would rather just hit with wood!

I witnessed the new bats being used during Woo's 2 games with Walsh and during the intrasquad games. I saw fewer home runs and gap shots with the new bats. Walsh used the older, more livelier bats and the difference was more than noticeable. The change might put a premium on "small ball" this year for many DIII teams.

I'm happy to at least someone responded to this, so Thank You macdade. I think this will become more of an issue as we progress into the 2011 season. Maybe not an issue as much as a discussion point. But, there is a huge difference. Witt scrimmaged Urbana a few weeks back and Urbana only had 1 new bat to use, some used it but most others still hit with the bats from last season. And it was noticeable, balls that were hit with the new bats were hit to around 285 ft. Well short of the warning track, if they were the old bats, some could have had a chance to go out. Teams will have to adjust, to as you said, "small ball baseball" more this coming season, not only for DIII schools, but even the Big Boys will have to adjust. They are allowed to use Wood Bats, I know of at least 4 kids on Witts team that plan to go with the wood.

I watched a little bit of fall ball at OWU and noticed a big difference. Balls that would have carried out in the past didn't make it to warning track depth. I think the game will change dramatically. More small ball, emphasis on pitching and defense, and lower numbers offensively. I would prefer wood bats. The new bat seems deader than wood. Speed teams just got a leg up.

I'm not a sports physicist so maybe someone can answer this..... what are the respective co-efficients of restitution for the amped down aluminum bats as opposed to a standard wood bat? ? I took a BS Physics In Sports while at University and COR is one of the few things I remember!
