Looks like the NCAC should be pretty balanced. OWU didn't loose much just 2 guys Struble and Rygrok, Wooster lost a lot of bats but have pretty much all their pitching back, Denison lost 2 crucial 2-way guys Aidan Lucas and Park Smith but seem to have a lot of depth returning 31 guys, Wabash didn't loose any of their bats and their pitching should be better, Witt is still very young and had a exceeded expectations last year and now they have all a year older and will be even better, Oberlin seems to be beyond the building and now seem to be reckon with, ALL needs to replace the pitcher of the year but still has Stahl, Hiram seems to have a more experienced team, and Kenyon looks like they are going to be a force as well. I'm very excited to see the round robin this year, with the West being so competitive this past year and the balance of those teams in the East it will really be interesting to see how competitive this years race to Chillicothe will be. Lets hope the Ohio teams take care of business when it comes to PA and IN.
Being a DU fan I'm really interested to see how they do against Coach Mike Clark's old stomping grounds at Emory this weekend. Looking at their innings pitched Tyler Vaske a JR this year threw the most innings last year as a Soph even more than Smith or Lucas. His ERA was 4.53 with a 4-3 record but in conference he was 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA. I'm excited to watch him pitch this year. I also wonder if Matt Forgatch will break his own record this year.
I'm just excited to follow The Big Red in 2011. I just hope I can make it to a game this year. Maybe the OWU series since those are always a good match up between those two school.
Hope everyone is well on this board, good luck to everyone this year!

Welcome dufan. Glad to have you aboard. Good rundown of the NCAC teams. Happy to have your input. Good Luck to DU for the upcoming season.
Looking forward to the 2011 season and it is certainly close, with THE BERG starting their FL trip on March 6th. It'll be a memorable season for me as my grandson will be a senor this year and much is expected of this senor and talented laden team.
GO BERG!!!!

I'll also echo the welcome to dufan2000.
Struble is a big loss for OWU. He was a workhorse for them. They need Farr to step up into that #1 slot this season.
As for your Red, the loss of Smith and Lucas is going to be a big hurdle. Both guys were excellent players. Vaske really seemed to throw well as the season progressed so I agree if he comes along that will help immensely. With that many experienced guys back you almost have to think they'll fill in the holes pretty well.
Woo will have good pitching. Again. Man it must be nice to have the staffs that TP usually does!
The best thing about the way the NCAC appears to be shaping up is that the top to bottom competitiveness seems to be improving. That's a great thing for a conference that saw far too many years of lopsided finishes in their divisions.

Heidelberg is very talented. They are a very complete team with great hitting ,pitching ,and defense. On paper they seem to be the favorite in the Mideast Region. Wooster and Marietta will be good, but the Berg is ahead of the pack to start the season. I expect the NCAC to be a dog fight and Wooster won't have an easy time.

^^^ I'm very interested to see what, if any, effect the new format has on things in the NCAC. I'm biased as an OAC guy, but I like the idea of playing everyone twice. It just makes more sense to me.

As always it seems like those 3 teams have deep pitching. In both of our main conferences just about everyone has some dangerous hitters and at least one good pitcher, usually a couple. The difference is that those 3 teams seem to have 4, 5, 6 good pitchers. When the grind starts in April they just wear people out. The good thing for everyone else is in a DH you only need a couple breaks to get a split and that's huge when it comes to making your conference tourney.

Port Charlotte, Florida: And the beat goes on.... The Student Prince Baseball team continued their winning ways from last season with a 14-0 win over Mt St Joseph. With a sparkling 7 innings from Ethan Holt, 0 runs - 5 Hits - 5 SO And 1 inning each from Mitch Jones, and Fr. Zach O'Driscoll. The hitting was also on a par with last season as THE BERG registered 20 on the Pop Meter with 10 players registering at least one hit. Multiple Hit guys were R. Lizcano, 4-5, G Keen, 3-6, D Andrzejczak, 3-5, E Williams, 2-6, W Brechun, 2-6, J Lash, 2-5 and one bingle each from A Monroe, Z Colatruglio, J Martin and J Rourke. Long balls were a double each for Lizcano and Andrzejczak and HRs, one each for Brechun and Lash.

Gramps,
The Berg will keep rolling in a big way until they play some quality opponents. They are that good. Obviously, MSJ's pitching wasn't very good, but I'm curious as to whether the baseballs jumped off the BBCOR bats or not? I'm hearing that the balls will still go if hit on the sweet spot but that otherwise there is a noticeable difference. What say you???

Anderson hit home runs at a terrifying rate last year. I don't think you'll see freakish stats like that with the new bats. A lot of runs are still being scored, but it's due to a lot of hits ,doubles and triples. Good hitters will still produce runs but the home run totals will be down.

What say you??? macdade, With 2 games in, THE BERG has 33 Hits, 3 HRs, 2 Triples, 5 Dbls. And with that output, IMO, they would have had more last year. You're right about the sweet spot, the balls still have the velocity to move out of the ballpark when hit just right. Many balls were hit hard that ended up as long outs. The season is still young and you'll have a better idea when you get down here with Wooster next week. Bring lots of Sunblock.
