top of the 9th HEID - 4 LINFIELD - 6
man, I hope HEID can come back to get this game...I'd hate for Lowe to end up with both losses in the W.S. I guess you live and die with your best, and he's definitely the 'Berg's best option.
c'mon Heidelberg!!!!!!!!!

dangit....FINAL 6-4 Linfield.
great year for Heidelberg & all their players/coaches...tough way to end the year, but they'll realize in a few short hours how much they accomplished this year, and over the last few. Nothing to hold their heads about, and it will only make them stronger for next year!

Berg goes down 1-2-3 in the 9th. Linfield eliminates them 6-4. GREAT season! School record for wins, 1st ever trip to the WS and a good showing there. They return almost everyone next season so this is hopefully just the beginning. Congrats to Coach Palm and all the guys! I know they're disappointed, but they accomplished too much to be down for long. Build on it!

Need proof that baseball is a weird game? A .500 team is playing for the national championship. Illinois Wesleyan finished the regular season 19-19, snuck into the CCIW tournament and now they're playing for a national title.

Cortland State stays alive with a 12-9 win over Linfield. I have a feeling the Red Dragons will take home their 1st ever baseball Title this afternoon. Their offense is rolling, and someone will step up and throw a good enough game to keep them in it. (and that someone is Assmann....awesome!!)

Illinois Wesleyan finished the regular season 19-19, snuck into the CCIW tournament and now they're playing for a national title. they are the perfect example of a team NOT playing to their talent potential, and then turning it on at the right time. they have a lot of talent, but just played horribly for the first 2/3 of the year (14-17 through their first 31 games). Then they woke up and have gone 16-4 in their last 20 games. I remember when Marietta stomped them back in March down in Memphis, and thinking that IWU wasn't nearly as good as people thought....obviously they just weren't playing well, even though the talent was there. funny game.

Congrats to the Berg team of 2010. They have accomplished many new goals this season and were just short on a few. What Coach Palm had envisioned at the onset of his tenure as Heidelberg's Baseball Coach is near completion. With the returning players and the new freshman class from this fall, we should have a strong contender for the national stage.

Chad, I would like to personally thank you for your outstanding coverage of D3 baseball this season. In return, I am extending a personal invitation to crash at my rented house in Port Charlotte next Spring. But only if you can handle a heated pool, begin drinking cocktails at 10:00 a.m. and sit through countless ball games!! And this goes out to Gramps...... Congrats to Heidelberg on a great season... Now the hard part for The Student Princes..... Dealing with expectations, staying focused and playing hard each game. Wooster learned all of these lessons the hard way!

First of all, I'd like to ditto Macdade's thanks to Chad. Awesome coverage of all OAC, Regional and WS games. Looking forward to future articles and Chad's insightful comments on all of the teams. And secondly, thanks macdade for the advice. As you know, this is new territory for us Berg fans so we'll just try to go with the flow and enjoy the moment.

Thanks guys. I really had a lot of fun. The site allowed me to get into a lot more of the total DIII landscape which I really enjoyed. There were times that I was frustrated with my work schedule not allowing me to go to games or not allowing me to write as often as I wanted, but overall it was a blast. I think Chris and I are both very excited because we feel like the site can only improve from here. Thanks for posting all season too!
Just because the DIII season is over doesn't mean I'm disappearing. I just did a Q&A with a former teammate of mine who has been coaching at Mount and North Central for years. That will be up soon.
We will doing some recaps, catching up with some players and coaches and keeping tabs on our guys as they play this summer so don't forget about us.
p.s. macdade, I will take you up on that offer if I make the trip south!

CBS Sports will do a special today, Sat., June 19th, on NCAA Spring Sports. According to my information, there will be a segment on Div III Baseball WS from Appleton, Wisc. Hope that there will be some shots of your favorite team, or better yet, of your favorite player.
