Heidelberg draws John Hopkins Fri 5:30 PM EDT
#1 Seed vs #2 Seed, my guess. Also my guess, winning team wins it all.
GO BERG!!!

Think reseeding might be a better way. Huge game right away. No holding pitchers in this one. This is probably going to be for all the marbles.

I think most people around the country would say that Hopkins is the favorite to win it all. They've been #1 for some time and have played well. Obviously, I want the Berg, but the team that caught my eye was UW-SP. The Pointers have been to the Series and they battled out of a tough Midwest regional.

usually each year at the Series there are favorites, and teams you know will get walked all over. This year is different. In my opinion, the only somewhat weak team is Illinois Wesleyan out of the Central. Anyone else could easily walk away with the title, and not be too much of a shocker....and whoever it is, they'll be bringing home their FIRST DIII Baseball Championship.
Here are the teams, with national ranking (as of May 16th - before regionals).
1- Johns Hopkins....great overall pitching & hitting stats; was there in 2008. 2- Heidelberg....played a very tough schedule, came out of arguably the toughest region. 9- Shenandoah....repeat participant; experience of being there helps with off the field stuff, as well as on the field play. won't be in awe of the environment. 11- Cortland State....the most W.S. trips of any team in this years field. 16- Linfield....came out of the west; very tough regional. 28 - UW-Stevens Point....almost a HOME field advantage; and they've been there before...3 out of 5 yrs. nr- Mass Boston....probably one of the hottest teams in the country; would be a big cinderella story. nr- Illinois Wesleyan...came out of a weak region.
my early selection....Johns Hopkins sleeper pick.....Linfield

Plus Scott Brosius is the HC at Linfield isn't he? That makes me dislike Linfield!

Recorded a 15 minute interview with Coach Palm. We'll have it up on the site tomorrow.

"We were told that there will be video streaming for the Monday and Tuesday games only this year. Seems that this changes on a year-to-year basis. If memory serves me right, all games were covered in 2007 and 2009, but only later-round games in 2008 (I know the Cortland-Trinity opener in 2008 was not covered)."

Some of the fans were wondering about this. Just providing a service.

It's strange that the coverage changes on a year-to-year basis. The NCAA is normally so efficient and well-run that I am shocked this isn't handled consistently from one year to the next. (Note the sarcasm)

Chad, The NCAA streamed all the games last year. And the dissin of Wooster goes on..... Johnson and Van Horn were ABCA MER 1st teamers and barely got any recognition from D3 baseball.com. Van Horn was a 3rd team selection while Matt Johnson was an Honorable mention selection. Go look at the numbers. Both had better seasons than those selected ahead of them. Also, Justin McDowell and Tyler Fugate pitched more innings, had more wins and lower ERA's than several pitchers who received honors. Some of the players played for teams that didn't win near the games as the Scots did. All of this for a team with a 34-9 record. Not whining... look at the numbers!!!!! Finally, I would be glad to help out any Heidelberg fans with suggestions for lodging, meals and golf courses!!!!

I haven't agreed much with the dbaseball.com All-American teams over the last few years. I'm used to the days when the ABCA was the only thing going, so I still haven't got used to the fact that a few guys could get together & eventually build a website that hands out All-American awards. Wait until Thurs night at the banquet, and let's see what the ABCA does for the Wooster guys. I'm guessing they'll be honored a little more with mentions on the AA teams.

Congrats to all the ABCA All-Americans named last night at the banquet (this is the only one that really counts)...now onto the Championship! 2 days of organized chaos in Appleton. Tomorrow night we'll be looking at 2 teams heading home, and 2 teams sitting at 2-0, gearing up for that all important game on Sunday, and looking a National Championship in the eye. Best of luck to the boys from Ohio!

Game One is in the books... UWSP - 8 Cortland St - 9 UWSP basically gave this one away. I couldn't figure out early on, who actually wanted to win this game, and who really wanted to head to the loser's bracket. The two teams combined for 14 walks (not good at all for Day One pitchers!!!), NINE of them by UWSP.....they also combined for 5 errors. Maybe first day jitters; or maybe they just aren't as tough as the competition we are used to seeing here in Ohio. Anyways, Cortland scored 3 in the 8th, and 2 in the 9th to get the win in walk-off fashion.....a 2-out single with the bases loaded. Loaded b/c of a walk

I thought they'd be higher myself. And the pitcher's weren't mentioned. www.abca.org/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18900&ATCLID=1246784

Wow. Congrats to the Berg! What a win. Ethan Holt was special today. I was most impressed by his 0 walks. Freshman starting game 1 of the WS against #1 JHU and their lineup and he doesn't walk a guy. What a job.
And I know of one very, very proud poster....congrats Gramps! Couldn't be happier for you.
Good luck to the Berg tomorrow!
