Welcome to the message board "inthecrease". I agree. With Gar at the #8 spot, 7 -1 and "Player of the Year" have to be excellent baseball players.
By the way, Brian Koehl of THE BERG has just been named the #8 Pitcher in D3 Ohio Colleges by the same BSB Blog. Congrats to Brian.
GO BERG!!!!

I'll really go out on a limb here and name at least 3 players probably ahead of Keen...... Lizcano, Brechun and Van Horn. Could somebody venture a guess as to the other four?

macdade, if you were at the Mid-East Regional last year, Heidelberg's shortstop, Jason Lash, played a good tournament and also has good enough stats to be considered one of the top seven. He also has good credentials, being ABCA 2nd team All American in 2010, 1st team OAC (2008, 09, 10), 3 time all Mid-East Region (!st Team 2008, 3rd Team 2009, 1st Team 2010), Mid-East Tournament Team 2008 & 2010. His BA's are .425, .341, & .405 respectively for 2008, 09, & 10 for a .390 composite BA. You asked for the other four, I could think of only this one. Just a guess.

Gramps, You are right. Jason has excellent hands and is a tough out at the plate. I think he gets overlooked a little but I doubt that anyone at Heidelberg/OAC underestimates his abilities. That leaves 3 more as yet unnamed players. Thoughts anyone???

macdade, I think you're right about Jason Lash being overlooked as a player. Perhaps this video after the John Hopkins game gives a least a possible explanation. At about the 2::40 minute mark, the coach says: "and their shortstop ... made some hard plays look easy".

What about Greg Ferrell of Mount Union? Is he still around, or did he graduate last year?

First of all "pitchersmom", welcome to the BSB Boards.
Just checked the Mt Union website, and they don't have a 2011 roster posted. They do have a 2010 roster posted and Greg Ferrel is listed as a senor on that roster, so he's probably graduated. In checking over his stats though, he was certainly a fine hitter.

Checked the OAC website, these were the top 10 players as far as batting avg last year. Don't know how many of them were seniors: Lizcano, HEID .445; Brechun, HEID .429; Snyder, MAR .412; B. Benander, JCU .406; Lash, HEID .405; E. Spitzer, MUSK .403; Meador, MAR .400; Roncolato, WILM .396; Fogg, WILM .393; Becker, MAR .391.

Spitzer is back. Roncolato is back, not sure about Fogg.

Also of note, the Quakers have all of 16 kids on their roster. And yes, that includes freshmen.

Chad, Welcome back. I was wondering if you were still associated with BSB. Good to have your input and expertise with D3 baseball back on the boards. Looking forward to more of your thoughts about the Ohio Baseball scene, especially with Spring training rapidly coming.

I'm still lurking gramps. My job has been taking up a lot of my time. It seems my plate gets piled higher every week, but now that year-end is done I should be around a little more often. Working on OAC previews this week. Chris has done a great job somehow handling everything. He's a machine.
