Capital kicked off the OAC season w/ a 9-7 win at Huntingdon. I was interested to see who Grice gave the ball to in the opener. Turned out to be one of his veterans, Marty Brinker. I'm waiting to see when Justin Hoying makes his debut.

Cap dropped a 14-4 decision to Huntingdon yesterday. Hoying got the start and surrendered 1 ER (4 R).
Etta has had 2 strong starts and is 2-0 so far. Williams and Blaski were both very good in their debuts.

Berg and Etta both dismantled opponents today. Is week 1 too early to call this a 2 team race in the OAC? Because these 2 teams are going to be very, very good.
My Raiders split to open too. They started 4 freshmen in the field (1B, SS, C, RF).

I'm waiting to see when Justin Hoying makes his debut. The 2 freshmen I'm most excited to see are Hoying (because I saw his state title performance) and Chris Thomas (Berg) because he was nearly untouchable in HS. Hoying had a solid first start and then his 2nd appearance was spotless so he's been very good early on. Thomas? We'll have to wait and see as Berg has a lot of depth ahead of him. But he's extremely talented.

OWU enjoys their first trip to the OAC beating up on BW and Musky. No box scores yet, but the offense seems to be clicking for the Bishops down south as they hung a couple TD's on both today.

Witt swept King's today to even their record at 2-2 thus far.
ONU completed their trip 5-0 in Myrtle. Last year I gave the Bears no love because their spring trip schedule was weak. This year I'm keeping my mouth shut.

My Raiders split to open too. They started 4 freshmen in the field (1B, SS, C, RF). Reading the play by play of the first trine game, it looks like the freshmen might have bit them. Reached on dropped 3rd strike, bunt (and reached base), bunt (and reached base), single to win it. Pitching looked strong tho with Cody and Beau Why is John Carroll playing Wilmington? Its a little odd for a team to play a conference opponent during the spring trip

Nathan Strome had 2 great games today. If he can fill the DH spot ,that puts another strong offensive player in a position in the field. That's a pleasant surprise ,and bodes well for OWU. Eric Livingston went deep today. He struggled offensively last year, but he can be a big run producer. I don't know how strong BW or Muskingum are , but 28 runs in 2 games is great for the Bishops. They were very weak last year in some series in scoring runners in scoring position.

If Bott hits well the their 1-4 is brutal. And if Strome and/or Livingston produces consistently it could be very interesting.
I think BW is going to struggle this season until Harrison has time to recruit a full class. Their talent level on the mound has been down for a few years now. Musky lost a lot of talent, but they always seem to be able to hit. Can they pitch is the question. Last year they did and made the OAC tourney, but that's not the norm.

Its a little odd for a team to play a conference opponent during the spring trip I didn't even read the play by play. That stinks that they lost like that, especially for Colly who pitched so well. I think we all knew that Colly and Smith would start yesterday. Wonder what they have after those 2 besides Lambert and Douglass?

They started 4 freshmen in the field (1B, SS, C, RF). MAR and OWU are battling right now...Gasser for MAR is shutting down the Bishop's bats as we speak, 0 runs, 7 Ks thru 5. MAR leads 4-0. So far the MC pitching staff has allowed 6 runs in the first 6.5 games played. Who knows if this will hold up, but it's a great start to the season. A lot of regional match-ups down south this year: MC split with Adrian, they play OWU, Mt. St. Jo, and a few others. Glad to see baseball is finally back! Good luck to Heid and WOO as they start their run to the Regional Championship also. *edit - MAR wins 9-0...improves to 6-1 on the season. Gasser goes 7 innings, 10 Ks, 3 hits, 2 walks, 0 runs. Gasser has now shutdown Emory and OWU for 13 scoreless innings to start his season. MAR now has allowed 6 runs thru 7 games. They play Blufton tmro, Wed is an off day, the Bishops again Thurs, Mt. St. Joseph on Fri, and end the trip with a DH against Carthage (Wisconsin) on Saturday.

Wittenberg sweeps Waynesberg today in Auburndale, FL. Game1, 6-3 and Game2, 8-3. That moves them to a 4-2 record. Witt now has 2 off days before getting back at it on Thursday for a 1:00 start vs. Penn St. Altoona, Friday vs. New Jersey City at 1:00 and finish the trip on Sat. with a 9am game vs. Anna Maria. All DH games.

Marietta may pitch well enough to beat Heidelberg in a short series. You don't have to score much when you can shut the other team out. It remains to be seen how good the Marietta offense is.

THE BERG offense exploded again Mon. at Terry Park in Ft. Myers, FL with a 16 run, 13 hit win over Olivet (1 Run - 6 Hits) Highlights: Gar Keen - 3 for 3, 5 RBIs, 3 Runs scored. * Don't tell Willie B-recun that the new bats will curtail the long ball. He had his 2nd HR in 2 days. (2-5, 4 RBIs, 1 run) * Elvin Williams showed his versatility with a 3-4, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored at the plate and than switched to the arm on the mound in the 8th with a no hit, no run, 2 SO effort. * Rick Lizcano 2-3, 2 RBI, 4 runs scored
GO BERG!!!
