It was a 3 game sweep of a hot Case Western Reserve team at Pleasant Valley over the weekend as THE BERG unleashed it's potent hitting machine. All of the regulars participated.
Heidelberg travels to Granville, Ohio for a matchup with Denison on Wed at 4:00 PM and entertains Ohio Weslyan in Tiffin on Thurs at 4:00 PM.
GO BERG!!!!

Denison Lost the first game today against the Gators 12-6, but turned it around to win the 2nd 16-8.
Seemed like they started they way they wanted but the wheels seemed to fall off in the 4th and 5th. But it was good to see a team be able to bounce back and get the win in the 2nd game. Overall it is always good to be 3-1 after the first weekend. Looks like the NCAC will be a dogfight this year Witt in first at 2-0 Denison at 3-1, Wooster at 4-2, Kenyon at 3-3, Wabash at 1-1, OWU at 2-2, Gheny at 1-3 (but seems like they are better than that), Oberlin yet to play and Hiram at 0-4. I like this new thing with no divisions. It makes the the conference more competitive and there is no clear cut favorite out of the box.
Chad, I'm hoping Vaske can keep doing what he's doing and shuts down OWU or Kenyon next weekend. The OWU Denison rivalry is very fierce and should be a good one to watch next weekend. I live just outside of Delaware so I'm hoping to attend those games!!
Hope everyone else is going well with every other team. Saw the thing on Witt that is no fun especially when you were so hot coming into the weekend.
Best to everyone!

On the Denison vs Heidelberg game, Denison has it scheduled for 6:00 PM and Heidelberg has it set for 4:00 PM. Which is right?
Also, for those interested, the GPS for the baseball field is 630 North Pearl St. Granville, OH 43023

Went over to MUC today to watch Mount Union take on Hiram in the home opener and made some observations about the purple raiders.
1. Greg Ferrell was not in the lineup today and I asked some people I knew why this was the case and was informed that today was the first day of a six game suspension. I also found out that Cody Colly was suspended for two starts. Apparently there was an issue off the field and this is why. I don't want to go into all the details on here but from what I know it was not them directly involved but since they were voted captains they took the brunt of the punishment handed down by the AD. Seems to be a lot of internal turmoil as well.
2. Discipline is once again lacking. Sloppy defensive throws even if they didn't lead to errors. Poor base running choices. Throwing helmets and bats. Same stuff different year. I can't say I am surprised.
3. I don't think that the good talent that is there is ever going to develop further. I coached in the fall league there and had two of the four freshman they started today. Neither look like they are any better today than they were 6 months ago. The same can be said for Craig Knott. Still the same player he was 2 years ago. Development has not occurred.
Long story short I think it is going to be a very long year in Alliance. They lost Hiram today in a poorly played ball game. If you cant beat Hiram in your schedule it is going to be a very long year. Would be shocked if they won tomorrow or in the 2 conference games on Saturday. It is disappointing but I think this is the reality.

Not sure where to start with that post....
First off, thanks for the insight. I think everyone here appreciates thoughts from people in attendance.
Second, I had the live stats up at the office today and needless to say I was happy I only had to endure it that way rather than in person. Losing to Hiram is not good. The fact that the Terriers kicked the ball around (4 errors) and you threw your #2 and #3 starters for 6.2 of the 9 innings isn't comforting.
Those suspensions are crushing. Colly is their ace and Ferrell is by far their best player. Losing both heading into conference play is a recipe to dig a nice hole in conference play right out of the gate. Not that they had much of a shot against Etta, but beyond that it's going to sting. I'd like to say I hope they circle the wagons and come out swinging, but I just don't know that that's where we're headed with this.

Just returned from Univ. of Cinn. where Wittenberg beat Mt. St. Joe tonight 6-1, helped by 5 errors by the Lions, Witt goes to 12-7 and 4 straight wins. Good pitching tonight, it was the starters night to get in some work, since the Wabash rain/sprinkler out. Kevin Toole 3.0 inn, 1 hit, 3 BB, 5 K's. Jim Clement 3.0 inn. 2 hits, 1 run, 3 BB, 1 K's 1ER. Zach Spring, 3.0 inn. 1 hit, 0 BB. So, Wilmington on Thursday 7pm at Witt. Will it please warm the **** up!!

Wilm will be a nice little tune up for the NCAC action. Witt should take care of business and ride that solid 5 game streak back into conference play.
How are you NCAC guys liking the new format? Better? Worse?

I saw that DU lost to Capital yesterday 5-3. I hope that is just a result of them not having their best and can turn it around against Berg today. Temps are supposed to be cold. Gramps, I checked the Denison site and the game is now at 4 there.
Hope they can play well and continue that into this weekend!

John Carroll continues to struggle, they are now 6-9. With the losses of Evanko and Eden the team has only one upper class pitcher with Schaberl. Hopefully the streaks can turn it around as they go to Otterbein for the conference opener. They lost a heartbreaker to Otterbein last Saturday in ten innings

Are Evanko and Eden injured I assume? Tweaked something? Out for the year? If either of them are out for extended amounts of time it's not good. As always, that's the issue for "the rest of us". Berg and Etta can overcome the loss of a starter and closer. The rest of us? We usually don't have the depth.

Eden is out for the year I don't know the injury and Evanko is out with tendentious and his return is not known. JC also lost Eggleton and Moonan two key starters from last year that were key conference starting pitching.

I wondered what happened to Eggleton. Man, that's A LOT of pitching to lose due to things besides graduation. This season is going to be very goofy in the OAC. The other 8 teams seem very unpredictable.
